The newest installment in the Forza franchise is coming out next year. Microsoft announced the release date of Turn 10’s Forza Motorsport during its 2022 Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase on Sunday, along with a new trailer for the game.

If true, this means the new racing instalment will be coming to Xbox One as well as Xbox Series X and PC (thanks, Dualshockers).

Up until this point, it has not been confirmed as a cross-gen title and while we, naturally, need to wait for official confirmation either way, if true it's quite a surprise from developer Turn 10.

Offering the best experience, Forza Motorsport will run at 4K and 60fps on Microsoft’s flagship Xbox Series X console. It will also support ray-tracing, bringing realistic reflections and lighting effects to all races. Every track also has dynamic time of day and weather.

The Xbox Series S version will run at 1080p/60fps.

Over the last decade, the Forza series of racing games has been split into two separate subseries. Forza Motorsport’s numbered entries focus on the track-based racing that the series originally made its name on. The second franchise, Forza Horizon, sends players into fictionalized real-life cities and environments for an open-world driving adventure. Forza’s last two entries have been Horizon games, which makes this year’s title the first Motorsport entry since 2017.

YouTuber Jamie Moran was even able to play it on their Xbox Series X and share the footage, stating on Twitter: "The First Forza Horizon game popped up again in the store. Such a fun game, it still holds up really well and it’s 4K on Series X & One X."
